Eighteen Visions for the 2011 film fest

The Visions program at the 2011 Toronto International Film Festival brings us 18 films that attempt to 'challenge our notions of mainstream cinema'.

The Visions and Vanguard programs are often closely associated, but here's the difference:

films in the Visions program try to challenge the audio-visual form of cinema (by altering the process of film-making, or playing with the art of storytelling) — whereas Vanguard films present challenging content (intended to be bold, provocative, and often defying conventions).

(Btw, if you're wondering about the difference between the Visions and Vanguard programs: Visions films tend to be more experimental with the audio-visual form of cinema, whereas it's usually edgier content that gets a film into the Vanguard program.)
