2013 TOfilmfest Top 20 (anticipated)

For the past 5 years, we've been very happy to be invited by Peter Howell, movie critic for the Toronto Star, to be a part of his annual Chasing the Buzz poll — a panel of critics/programmers/film-buffs name the films they are most looking forward to at the festival.
[This year was especially challenging as panelists were asked to provide just one film title — and just one sentence to state the reason for their choice.]

As part of the process, we narrowed our list down to 20 films that we're most looking forward to at TIFF'13; here they are, in no particular order:

Many new films were announced for the Discovery, Masters, and Mavericks programs; several cinema-related art exhibits will be showcased in the Future Projections program; and three new Special Events were added:

2013 Contemporary World Cinema, and more!

The Toronto International Film Festival announced many new films on Tuesday August 13th. These new additions to the festival will join a number of programs including: Galas, Special Presentations, Contemporary World Cinema, TIFF Kids, and Wavelengths.

“MCCANICK” (2013 feature film directed by Josh C. Waller)

This announcement also included Josh C. Waller's film "McCanick" — starring Cory Monteith in his last role, before his accidental death last month. (Cory Monteith also appears in Gia Milani's All the Wrong Reasons at the festival this year.)

On Tuesday, August 20th, the festival's final programming announcements will be made, and the official schedule will be released.

2013 Canadian film entries

“CINEMANOVELS” (2013 feature film directed by Terry Miles)

The Canadian films screening at the Toronto International Film Festival were announced August 7th; they include entries in a number of festival programs: Special Presentations, Contemporary World Cinema, Masters, Discovery, Vanguard, Short Cuts Canada.

This announcement also confirmed the inclusion of Gia Milani's All the Wrong Reasons, starring Cory Monteith — previously reported by the The Hollywood Reporter.

“WAKENING” (2013 short film directed by Danis Goulet)

Also — for the first time ever — a short-film will be presented before the opening-night feature at the Elgin Theatre (The Fifth Estate). The independently produced Canadian short "Wakening", will screen as part of a 'Stage to Screen' commemoration of the 100th year anniversary of the Elgin & Winter Garden Theatre.

On Tuesday August 13th, there will be new additions announced for Galas, Special Presentations, Contemporary World Cinema, TIFF Kids, and Wavelengths.
